HICKORY, NC – Lowes Foods has commenced implementing Itasca’s Magic™ computer generated ordering and inventory optimization along with Itasca’s industry-standard DSD receiving solution in its supermarkets across North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
Regional chain grocer is installing the solutions in all its stores to ensure superior service quality and item availability
Itasca Magic is a computer-generated ordering and inventory management system that optimizes inventory by applying grocery-specific machine learning capabilities. It is a field-proven software solution that optimizes the replenishment and management of store-level inventory. The system forecasts consumer demand and applies sophisticated algorithms to place orders for the right quantities of the right products in every store, real-time.
“We had already seen benefits from automated warehouse ordering in a few departments in our stores, but our desire was to extend this capability to the entire store, including perishables,” said Mike Clawson, Senior Vice President of Lowes Foods. “Only the Itasca solution can do that.”
Clawson’s team at Lowes Foods selected Itasca Magic following a comprehensive evaluation of vendors who offered alternative solutions, he said. “In multiple implementations Itasca has proved that its technology and approach completely meet this increasingly-exposed business challenge.”
As an integral part of the project, Lowes Foods will also implement the Itasca Magic DSD solution, which links electronic receiving of high-volume direct-store delivered products to the real-time forecasting and computer-generated ordering process.
Said Jeff Kennedy, President and Co-founder of Itasca Retail, “Our successful work with customers very similar to the stunning Lowes Foods stores provides assurance they will continue and extend the good results in the categories they currently have under automated ordering.”
He added, “Lowes Foods will quickly extend that capability to DSD and Fresh/Perimeter areas of the store. Itasca Retail is honored to accompany them on this journey.”
