HONOLULU — Times Supermarkets, operator of supermarkets and wine shops across Hawaii, is bringing the Itasca Magic™ inventory optimization solution to all its stores.
The decision is effective immediately. It comes following a highly successful pilot project of four months duration, in two stores located in Honolulu and Lihue.
“We’re highly encouraged by the results of the pilot just completed with Itasca Magic,” said Chris Borden, Times’ Senior Director of Marketing. “The benefits to reordering accuracy, in-stock position, and reduced back stock have been profound in those locations. We plan to proceed with chain wide implementation without delay.”
Times operates 24 stores under the Times Supermarkets, Big Save, Shima’s, and Fujioka’s Wine Times banners, on the Hawaiian islands of Oahu, Maui and Kauai. It is a member of the Unified Grocers wholesale grocery cooperative. The Magic rollout will encompass all 24 of its stores.
Due to its island locations and the necessity to deliver product by ship, Times faces some unique supply chain challenges with respect to order timing and delivery frequency. Results from the pilot indicate that these problems have been significantly mitigated in several grocery and dairy categories with the advent of Itasca Magic.
“We’re very pleased that we have been able to bring this initial success to Times Supermarkets,” said Jeff Kennedy, president of Itasca Retail Information Systems. “They have been an outstanding partner. We welcome them to our community and look forward to serving Times for many years to come.”
